I had an amazing weekend celebrating my friend Linda’s 50th birthday! π We’ve been friends for almost 20 years despite living miles apart—she’s in Massachusetts, and I’m in Florida. I was reminded once again about the power of something I’d taught about for many years and had felt disconnected from lately. The power of play and our inner magical child. β¨
Despite what has been going on in my world and in my life lately, hanging out with seven other women and “playing” was incredibly restorative to my soul. With so many midlife responsibilities along with energy and hormone changes, we inevitably get caught up in “adulting” so much that we get deluded into thinking we don’t have the time or energy to play.
I did. I almost said no to this weekend. I’m so glad I didn’t.
Linda planned an epic girls’ weekend, complete with a special after-hours event at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. We dressed in our Harry Potter Hogwarts House colors (go Hufflepuff! π¦‘), put on sparkly freckles, and indulged in pure, magical fun.
We had a blast at Toothsome’s Chocolate Emporium, starting with a flight of five milkshakes (yes, dessert first! π¨). We rode lots of rides screaming in delight, watched the Hogwarts castle light show in wonder, laughed and teased each other, met a dinosaur, played 50th birthday bingo, and even tasted hot butterbeer for the first time. π§βοΈπΊ
This weekend was a powerful reminder that we can’t forget to have fun and play. It’s essential to reconnect with the energy of our magical child—whether it’s dressing up, playing games, trying new foods, going on a new adventure, or just finding joy in the little things. π It’s soul hydration for these times.
So, here’s my invitation: take some time to play! π
